Well, trying to breed our doe milk goats twice in the past year has resulted in nothing more than a couple of contented goats making our pasture picturesque. After weighing our options, we decided that what we would add a buck to our small herd to avoid yet another trip to the breeders across a ferry and throughout windy roads and of course adding stress (again!) upon the girls (and me!). What this means, besides the work of finding a quality buck and managing my herd differently, is buck-proofing the fence. Is “buck-proofing a fence” even possible?! It also means yet another year of waiting until I become a goat-milking mama…and that’s assuming these girls will even conceive. Ah well, God’s best for me is to trust His womb opening and closing, even in goats!
We did have babies here, though! My daughter bred her chocolate havana rabbits and had eight kits that survived. All of her babies are so friendly and cuddly due to her daily loving attention.
