Well, if I can’t be outside gardening in the rain, I may as well be inside sewing. Or knitting. Or crocheting.
This is the first thing I’ve ever crocheted, and even though it was tedious at times (row after row after row…), I know I am going to enjoy it. I used oh-so-soft alpaca yarn and found the idea and pattern from here.
I also decided it was time for me to get serious about seriously learning how to sew with a sewing machine. A friend of mine comes over regularly to help me read the pattern and then translate it into something I can understand (God bless her!). So I finished up the first dress I’ve ever done! It was a birthday present for Ruby, who just turned two. It matches the bloomers I made a while ago.
I am almost finished knitting my first pair of socks. It is so much fun to finally get to a place where I have more time and space to do these sorts of things. And speaking of learning new things, a friend from church has agreed to come once a week to teach my 8yo and 12yo how to use a sewing machine. One of my prayers is that my daughters would excel their mother (that would be me) in all things, and although I don’t know how their lives will play out, at least their sewing (for one) is off to a good start. And yes, my 8yo sewed this dress herself! See how happy she is!
My 12yo is finishing up a Civil War reproduction dress to wear to the Reenactment this weekend. It is so beautiful and I will definitely share with you all soon.
I will say that none of these things are done overnight. The key for me is to just keep picking at it, a little here and a little there. The tortoise wins the race, and keeps her family sane 🙂
Blessings,
