I thought I’d share some of the projects we’ve been doing around here this month. The first three pictures are inspired from this month’s issue of Mary Jane’s Farm. We (Ms. Jane and I) seem to part ways in spiritual and political issues, but I sure love all of the crafty foodie farmy down-home stuff in her magazine! Beautifully photographed, too.
Here are three felted flower pins I made for my three friends whose birthdays are this month. We all sat at a table for 14 tonight to celebrate and that was such a great time! The birthday gals wore their flower pins, and I made candy cane bath salts as party favors for everyone to take home (here is one recipe for the salts you could try if you’d like).
The kids and I decided to make a gingerbread barn this year instead of a house. Our favorite part was using the garlic press to make “hair” for the girl, boy, and horse. We used shredded wheat to look like hay bales. It sure looks cute!
Making our own candy canes was totally fun, and easy too. They taste way yummy and have no funny red dyes or artificial anything. The kids made their own designs with the candy, and they had a great time pulling and stretching it all out (quickly, before it hardened!). We used beet juice for the coloring, which was a double bonus because my friend and I love beets on our salad (with feta cheese…mmmmm…). I put the leftover beet juice into the freezer to use for decorating Easter eggs later.
Here’s a finished mini-quilt I made and sent off. I just love it! It looks “Dr. Seuss” like and has such motion in it. I blanket stitched the thin pieces on, which was really challenging! And I paid to get it professionally quilted; I just don’t have the machine to do that. Doesn’t it look neat?
