“Knowledge, learning, talents are not necessarily connected with sound moral and political principles. And eminent abilities, accompanied with depravity of heart, render the possessor tenfold more dangerous in a community.”
Noah Webster
“Oxford did little to improve John’s spiritual life…”
Basil Miller, John Wesley
Homeschoolers are out-of-the-box parents and educators. There are many stripes of homeschoolers but the basic foundation to them all is a willingness and passion to disciple their own children. The question for us all, then, is what are we to do about college? Unfortunately, schools of upper learning seem to be more and more about indoctrinating young adults into a worldview that is more and more unlike what their parents had in mind in furthering their child’s discipleship and *education*. Furthermore, not only are young adults leaving those institutions with a burdening debt-load, but they are not necessarily finding the job market open to them just because they now have a piece of paper with their name and school on it. And even more, these young adults are exposed to (and encouraged!) to experience and engage in wildly immoral practices in the name of “the college experience” that sometimes, heartbreakingly, lead to life changing mistakes and regrets.
If you as a homeschooling parent (or even if you’re not homeschooling!) are pondering any of these things, I encourage you to (continue! or start!) to think outside-of-the-education box with regards to the College Question. In my opinion, and especially after this interview, College Plus is definitely an option worth considering. Let me know what you think!

We loved CollegePlus! Even though our son went on to something else after 2 years with it, CollegePus was a wonderful option. We highly recommend it 🙂

Thanks so much, Eva. I know we are encouraged by the possibilities partially because of the great testimonies.

Thanks for this podcast. I appreciate the variety of your podcasts and how content filled they are.
I really do think we could be good friends in real life (I think we share many like interests), and wish you could mentor me in managing a farmette someday (among other things), but with the half-world distance I am glad to know you a little this way. 🙂
Anyway, College plus really does sound like a great option for some people, perhaps even your own family. I do think if money were even more of a factor and both the parents and students were highly motivated that you could do a similar route on your own. I think this post was also helpful for those considering college soon.

I do appreciate that College plus seems to really want to help students develop life skills and a direction for life. Vision is so sorely lacking amongst many people today and I am sure that many students could really benefit from their one on one coaching.
I also appreciate that they encourage families to really look at what they should be doing for themselves, instead of what the current culture says you must do, as so many of those things are clearly failing now.
While we are far from college with our own kids (like you we homeschool from birth, but our oldest is only 4 1/2), I did a similar but different route to education as well. I was homeschooled and then gradually began taking more and more classes for dual credit at a community college and then took classes at a university to complete my degree.
Two things that are great to keep in mind for taking CLEP or any standardized test like that are to take them soon after you finish the course that prepares you for them, and to check out review books from the library to help cover any material that you might of missed. For instance I also did Apologia science and the biology CLEP and simply reviewed a prep book for the evolutionary concepts that I could memorize for the test and then no longer needed.
Wow that was a long comment. Sorry to write a book, wish we could have chatted over tea or coffee instead. Have a great day!
