If you know anything about homesteading, or want to know anything about homesteading, then Jackie Clay is the woman you most want to meet. To say that I was so happy to talk to her is an understatement. Jackie has been homesteading for more than 50 years, and is currently living off grid on 160 acres in Northern Minnesota where she and her husband, Will, produce more than 80% of their own food. Regardless of your own homesteading ambitions (or lack thereof), I think you’ll enjoy listening in and will find many applicable life lessons.

Keri,
What a wonderful surprise to hear two of my favorite authors!
You are an inspiration of a godly woman, blogger, wife, and mother to me. And Jackie, well, she is my inspiration to want to homestead, garden, can, and live off-grid!
So much rich truth and encouragement in this podcast. “Color outside the box” that will stick with me forever.
Thanks so much for all you and Tom put into these podcasts.
Because of Grace,

Thank you, Kim. And, yes, I love that “outside the lines” too! Funny how homesteading/homemaking is so unusual; it seems so Basic.

Just have to add a few comments (just a few – but you should have heard the complete conversation in my head whilst listening to this episode):
Did you know we were off the grid for several years?
At one point the sale of my rabbit fryers was lucrative enough to pay for all the animal feed (goat, chicken, rabbits, bees, dogs and cats). There is always something one can sell!
Those years were HARD! They also gave health I had never had before.
Our children learned so much unspoken wisdom.
We purposed the lifestyle and it was special to all of us but I realize now that we made choices (which land) but we also made ‘non-choices’ – Really, homesteading in the desert is seriously crazy-making. We did it there because we were there…. and oh yeah, we had goats freeze to death one December and it wasn’t even MN!
I would love to instill an ounce of the wonder of all that to my granddaughters.
