Lavender. Oh how I love lavender! I love the way it looks, the way it waves in the breeze, their easy care. I like to make beauty products with it and hang them to dry. I have about a dozen lavender plants here and there around the house, but there are around 200 varieties of lavender. Here is some information about lavender from one of my favorite farms.
Yesterday, I picked a nice basket of them from the front yard, always right below the first set of leaves.

I suppose I ought to mention how much I like the smell of lavender. Mmmm…. Notice that this lavender is picked before the flowers open.

This is what I find beautiful: rows and rows of lavender, swaying in the breeze like the ocean swells. And the scent of it all brushing together is so lovely. We spent the day at a lavender festival, and I could almost just close my eyes and imagine this scene growing outside my own home. Maybe someday…

In the meantime, I was thankful for the relaxing day! And now I must go have a lavender shortbread cookie right from the oven before packing them up for our church potluck tomorrow. I am so grateful for little pieces of heaven like this!
