Love for Poppy, Another Sister With Down Syndrome

I posted this photo on Twitter, so forgive me for reposting it here if you’ve seen it already. I heard Poppy crying and went to see her. Halfway to the bedroom door, it suddenly became very quiet. Hm…

So, I peeked in the door and this is what I saw. It was hard to make an immediate decision between carefully taking the baby OR my grabbing my camera. Glad I got the camera 🙂

Samaritan Ministries has become a blessing to us, for the second time now. This was a humbling and familiar sight when we brought Ruby home, too. Mountains of envelopes pouring in, containing cards, letters and, of course, checks to pay for Poppy’s hospital bills. So many people praying for Poppy. So many people sending their love. We share them all as a family in the quiet (or not, depending on whether the toddlers join us) evening.

Once again, it’s become a geography lesson, too. The map is beginning to fill up, and we aren’t even close to finishing up with those bills. Every day, it’s an adventure to open the mailbox. Every day, we’re so touched and encouraged by our brothers and sisters in the Lord. I’m still so amazed by God…how He calls so many others to Himself. I don’t know why I’m still astonished to meet the brethren….“you know Him, too?! Isn’t He wonderful?!”

There are cards and letters all over the place. Soon, they will all get put into a special box just for Poppy, along with the map. One day, we will share them all with her, and then she, too, can be astonished….“all these people were praying and paying for ME?”

Of course, our family is completely smitten with her. I don’t want to ruin this post with how many of these precious children get aborted. Instead, I want to show you a tiny bit about how the biggest and very best gift you can ever give your child is another sibling. Even if she has Down Syndrome, like Ruby. Even if the baby has Down Syndrome, like Poppy.

Thank you all for your love and prayers for Poppy. She is doing so very well; no heart condition, no health issues at all. She nurses as well as any of my other children (except Ruby…oy, that was a very painful challenge). She is almost four months old already, and I know she is very welcomed. I am so humbled to be her mother.
