Every now and then I take the time to allow my eyes to see what isn’t pretty. And I stop making excuses for its existence. What started here with good intentions became overrun with weeds, and instead of doing the hard work of pulling it all out, I just let it go. No harm to anyone. But no fruit, er, berries to speak of either. Sometimes it’s time to just get busy.
It wasn’t too bad. The fresh air was brisk, and the sun poked through the canopy overhead. And my friend Jesus was there, teaching me. As much as I *knew* about cutting back old canes to make room for new, I didn’t *understand* it until I began pulling up the roots. Two canes, same root. One is sickly and spent, the other a merciful second chance but hindered by its roommate.
