Psalms 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Sometimes sparrows fall. It’s been a hard road for little Lemuel and his family this past week. He was found unresponsive and although his care has been immediate and outstanding, he still struggles to live. With tears, I am asking my readers and listeners to please pray for him and his sweet family, for mercy, for a miracle, and ultimately (this is his family’s deepest desire and request as well), for God’s will in it all. You can do the most good for their family in prayer, and secondly, if able, with a donation to help defray costs here.
I am intimately acquainted with babies struggling for life. Two of mine–the two born with Down syndrome–were hooked up to various machinery keeping them alive until they were able to breathe on their own. We lost another one to miscarriage, and have mourned that same grief bourne by other parents we know. Friends of ours have carried and birthed children whose spirits had already fled, and we’ve helped another friend bury her precious toddler. I can tell you that it is horribly crushing to watch your child suffer or die…but I can also tell you that in Christ, we are not crushed.
Grief comes in many ways, but all of those ways are not only marked by God, they have been travelled by Jesus. He is the one who gives strength to the weary, and are we not all weary from sin and pain? He is the one who sends His scent when we are most dazed, sending His comfort whether it is by the Word, or by an event, or by a particular person. We just know when He shows up; it’s unmistakeable and we know His voice because we follow Him. The right medicine at the right time, always. The right balm in the right places, always. Psalms 145:14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. Every saint I know has story upon story of God’s mercy and grace in the midst of the most horrific situation, and still we all stand in full faith and assurance of Him who will finish every work He started. That is how a Christian–a true, blood-bought, repentant, broken and faithful saint–wakes up the next day, takes the next step. With hope. Because when the suffering is that real, so is a very, very small taste of Christ’s own great suffering. We become partakers with Him.
We also hope because we know the end. He is risen. He is risen, indeed! And like our great High Priest, we like sparrows–like eagles–will rise with Him, and cast off the tribulation and trials of this fallen world. Our hearts break so much this side of the veil. Take courage, dear heartbroken ones, He will heal you in His own good time. He has promised, He is faithful, and He will do it.
If you haven’t listened to Heather’s interview yet (she is the mama of the toddler who died), please do. You will be encouraged. And more grateful for the heart of Jesus, and for His hands that carry every little sparrow. What exceeding joy to be in the hands of Jesus!
Please be praying for little Lemuel.
