I’m sitting outside on the kitchen porch on a parisian yellow chair watching the breezes ripple their way through the firs and alders. The lavender lilacs are in bloom and their scent wafts by often enough to make me close my eyes and dream of summer. How can I transport to you the sound of the branches and leaves clapping and embracing in the wind? It sounds like waves upon a sandy shore. Birds are twittering by, chattering about the empty feeder (sorry) but finding plenty of flies and bugs to push them to acrobatics. I can also hear the low bleating of my dairy goat, calling to her baby continuously (“Where are you…are you here…stay close…”). I long to wrap these things up and gift them to you. Instead I invite you to walk undistracted to sit outside your own home. Look! Listen! God’s creation is beautiful.
My days have been spent settling in with baby. My children are anxious to introduce her to the world, but I insist on staying in my little part of the world, and bless them to go to church, to potlucks, to wherever. I and baby, we are fine. We are sitting in the garden, rocking in the bedroom, figuring out nursing (oooch), and giving the mama (moi) intoxicated fits of inhaling her sweet baby head. It’s not a bad way to spend a spring.
I will share with you Ruby’s response to her baby sister. This was one of those moments that, yes!, I had a camera within reach! Here Ruby is signing “baby”.
All at once, Ruby reached forward and grabbed up the sleeping baby!
After she gave her a wholehearted hug, she leapt off the bed, gave a wave and ran off!
And here she is with her very own baby.
In the meantime, I’ve started putzing around, doing small chores here and there. My friends have been feeding us suppers (thank you!), so this has been the extent of my kitchen food prep:
Four days after baby was born, I watched the first of my milk goats this spring give birth to her own daughter. I have three more goats this month giving birth, so it is a wonderful time for us (even though I *am* a little nervous until all of them are finished).
I hope your spring is filled with a beautiful life around your home, too. There is much to be grateful for.
Blessings,

oh that wonderful smell of a just fed baby, the downy head, the milky burps, the sore breasts..lol, nearly forty years since I last did that but it is one of those special ‘memory smells’ that stays in the subconscious. What a lovely babe you have to add to the others…goats and children alike. Love Ruby’s reaction 🙂
God Bless my friend
