I sat at my kitchen table, crumbling thyme I had previously hung from the bottom cupboards in the kitchen. It was hard not to let my mind wander to the last year as I methodically stripped off dried leaves from woody stems into the large stainless steel bowl.
An unexpected diagnosis of Down Syndrome with our newest baby.
Months of working alongside my husband to create his business website.
Crumble, crumble, crumble.
Finishing (more like putting up with) the last class for my masters in Holistic Nutrition.
Questions of purpose in homeschooling, followed by sister pains of mommy-guilt and mommy-inadequacy. A rebellious 5 year old. A 3 year old that insists on soiling his pants because, well, it’s warm and it’s his. A 7 year old beginning speech therapy. A 9 year old beginning to sprout his rooster feathers and an 11 year old showing emotional signs of pre-puberty.
I think I am better at crumbling thyme. It is safer and the aroma is somewhat comforting, like winter slow cooking.
And yet Jesus sends whispers. New creation. Renew your mind. You are mine. Follow me.
You, Lord, will I follow. Nothing seems scary when the Light is near.

Keri Mae,
I am a 24 yr old mother of two toddlers and a homemaker. I very recently had two miscarriages, one of which may or may not have been twins.
I’ve been seeking a more simple life. I cloth diaper, I attempted to have my last birth unmedicated, I try to feed my family heathy food foods and I had been seriously looking into chickens.
So naturally my podcast listening mother in law, recommended my listening to ur podcast. I am embarrassed at how many times I’ve listened to each one, but it seems each time I listened, I was uplifted, inspired, and thoroughly encouraged.
My husband and I, have been without a computer for months now, but I’ve been sooo anxious to read your blog. I couldn’t wait anything. Here I sit with my 2006 Mac, I got off ebay. I’ve been dying to express how much you and your family have changed my life!
Since I started Listening to your podcasts, I think about everything much differently!
We are in the process of building a chicken coop. I’ve already made arrangements to buy a goat after having her bred in the fall.
I’ve cleaned out my pantry, been making my own bread and reading your blog a little along the way.
I can’t begin to Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your happy home!

Hello Jessica
Thank you so much for taking the time to write and leave me such an encouraging note! I’m so thankful to the Lord that you have been encouraged and uplifted; and I’m also so sorry for your miscarriages (hug). Life is such a gift, isn’t it? I hope we can all strive to live it well.
