My children made the rounds this late afternoon into 14 different businesses in our community to wish the surprised owners and their clients a very Merry Christmas with their violins. It was delightfully fun, running around and greeting them all with a lovely ending to their day.
Many folks were smiling and enjoying it very much, but there were people who passed on by, not pausing a couple of minutes to even acknowledge either the children seeking to bless them nor the beautiful music that was circling the atmosphere. It frankly reminded me of Joshua Bell, who played on his $3.5 million dollar, 300 year old violin, for 43 minutes in a metro stop to see what would happen. Out of 1097 people who walked by, only 7 stopped to listen. He made $32.17.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves tonight, but I was sad for the people who couldn’t stop for a song or two. Our lives are so rushed, we miss so much beauty. I would encourage you, my readers, to take a moment, to stop, to really breathe and lift your chin and tune your ears. There is so much beauty in your life that is precious. Don’t miss it.

I have seen that Joshua Bell video before. Isn't it just amazing (and sad!) that so few people recognized or appreciated the talent they heard that day? What would it cost for tickets to go hear him play somewhere?? And that was free! I hope I would have been among those who stopped. :)Our kids play violin, too. Fun. 🙂
