I first heard of using a bread bucket about a year ago, and was on the lookout for one instantly. I love it! I can mix the dough for four loaves of bread easily, something my Kitchen Aid can’t do very well due to the smaller size of the bowl. Besides, it gives my toddlers something to do (crank, crank, crank…) when all they want to do is jump from sofa to chair to floor to sofa…(is it spring yet?)
After we add all of the ingredients and crank, we let the dough rise in the bucket itself next to the wood stove.
After rising, we put the dough into our loaf pans, let it all rise again, and then bake. In order to do this without a sourdough starter, you must use yeast. You must not *forget* to put in the yeast. Because no matter how lovely and warm your wood stove is, your bread will not rise, no matter how long you wait. Just sayin’ 😉
Have you ever heard of a bread bucket? I found ours on Ebay. And rather than repeat directions on how to use it, I’ll refer you to where I originally heard about it. It really is easy to use!
